Anatomy of a Brain Dump

Anatomy of a Brain Dump

Brain dumping in regards to writing (is there another kind? I’d rather not know) has always fascinated me. Generally, writers will use it to brainstorm, I however like to use it to write a scene. There are some days I get stuck, or one of my critique partners will call me out on lazy writing (“That wouldn’t happen,” “That’s out… Read More

Seven things that are saving my life right now

Seven things that are saving my life right now

My husband and mother-in-law were awesome enough to watch the kids for a morning (after my mother-in-law had them all weekend—she’s an absolute saint) so I could sneak away and have coffee with this gal. It’s so great to recharge your soul and be inspired to write,… Read More

February Book Report

You can see a full video of my monthly book haul and what I read on Periscope! Check it out on the Periscope Notes Page! The LumberJanes | This was a fun, quick read. Workspace Wednesday

So, what have I been working on this week. . . . . . figuring out this thing called Periscope. I’m having a lot of fun with it (despite the weirdos that pop in and ask extremely awkward questions) I want to start branching off toward the more Q&A-ish instead of me being a talking head. Trying to film a video… Read More

Pinterest for Writers

One of my favorite things about starting a new WIP is researching on Pinterest. Here I find pictures of my characters and setting, as well as complete any various “light” pre-research. Back in the day, I would spend hours pouring over magazines trying to find the perfect look for the characters in my head. Currently, I have a file cabinet full… Read More

That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened.

I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.

You got this. I’m cheering for you.
