Around Here

Around here has been interesting. My desktop isn’t working very well, so it’s off to the brother to get worked on. Hopefully it’s an easy fix. Andy and I are working on eating (mostly) clean. Eating real food is so much better than eating random stuff you just pull out of the fridge (or grab on the go). So happy… Read More

February Goal Recap + March Goals

February Goals:  Take more photos: I’m going to say I accomplished this. I’ve been working on posting more on Instagram, and I’m actually remembering the Camara on my phone. So. WIN! Friday Links: Vol 26

I really crush out over any movies about writers. I love this list. I always hated diagraming sentences, until I was older then it became a sort of literary puzzle. Ok. Using a library cart as a mobile office is genius. This is such a fun quiz for book nerds. Would be really fun on high school English tests. And… Read More

Who Do You Write For?

Who Do You Write For?

So this famous author once said, “. . .Every novelist has a single ideal reader; that at various points during the composition of a story, the writer is thinking, ‘I wonder what he/she will think when he/she reads this part?’” (note: yes, it was Stephen King in his book On Writing). Had you asked me a year ago, or even… Read More

We aren’t going to talk about the fact that I love Poldark so much, it is now my computer wallpaper. Or the fact that currently I’m in love with yellow legal pads. They are helping me hash out scenes left and right (hashtag all the random scribbles). My week is a little light on . . . well, anything, but… Read More

January Book Report

Assassin’s Heart | Sarah Ahiers: This one actually doesn’t come out until next month, but I was sent an advance copy from Epic Reads. I loved the concept of this book— Romeo and Juliet meets The Godfather. Ahiers did a fab job with the world building and creating a stellar kick-ass female lead! [Possible Spolier-ish Alert] This one was just kinda… Read More

That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened.

I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.

You got this. I’m cheering for you.
