Fiction that Speaks

Fiction that Speaks

You, guys. This book. Oh, my heart. First of all, let me say that I went into this book not really knowing what it was about. I knew it was about a dress shop, and Amy Green (who rec’d the book in the first place) said mentioned it was a split time story (which as of late have become some… Read More

In Review: Song of Leira

Note: This review contains affiliate links. Confession time. I generally don’t read high fantasy. I preface that because I’m about to highly recommend a fantasy novel (series really), and if I do that, you know it has to be that good. Song of Leira is the third (and final) book in Gillian Bronte Adams’ Songkeeper Chronicles. It’s one of those series that… Read More

This book was too much fun. I loved following along with Melissa, Wolf, and Bondi as they tried to discover the answers to their clues. Chicago is the city on my bucket list that I just absolutely love (and my brother lived there for a couple years), and after reading this book I’m even more determined to make that trip… Read More

I grabbed Genevieve Cogman’s The Invisible Library on recommendation of a close friend (hi, Bek!) Spies, libraries, books, magical elements—this book seriously has it all. It’s a story about a society of librarians who travel to different times and realities to save books. Irene is one of these agents. She travels, with new student, Kai to retrieve a book from an… Read More

The Little Giant

I remember growing up, my dad would always have Live with Regis and Kathie Lee on before leaving for work. I loved that show (mainly because he loved it, but still . . .) After Kathie Lee left, we agreed it just wasn’t the same. Well, now Kathie Lee is back—only not on television, and for your KIDS! Kathie Lee… Read More

In Review: Be Held

For the last couple of weeks, my daughter has been listening to music on repeat at night to help her sleep. Being the “good” mother that I am, I wanted to make sure that she is listening to something soothing and relaxing—and my typical classical music wouldn’t cut it (she’s not a huge fan. Says it gives her nightmares. Go… Read More

I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.

You got this. I’m cheering for you.
