In Review: The Pizza Bible

The Krumms love pizza. It’s one of the few things Drew will readily eat without complaining (unless of course he had his heart set on peanut butter and jelly. . .) In 2015 my sister and I have vowed to have a pizza night at least once a month. I am super excited about Tony Gemignani’s The Pizza Bible. It… Read More

Five for Friday: A Book Published This Year

Keeping with the 2015 Reading Challenge theme, here are 5 books that I want to read that were (will be) published this year. 1. Siren’s Fury by Mary Weber: Really. After all the hype I’ve given over book one you really don’t think book two is at the top, top of my list? 2. The Death Code by Lindsay Cummings: The… Read More

Book Report: January

Quick Lit is a link up hosted by Anne from Modern Mrs. Darcy. A place where we can all share what we’ve been reading lately. What have YOU been reading lately? I haven’t read a crazy amount since last link up, mainly because . . . holidays. And when it wasn’t the holidays it was holiday hangover. The Butterfly and… Read More

Books that Ruin

Books that Ruin

Books that ruin us. We all have them. Be a beloved character is killed off, or the plot doesn’t go the way you want. The books you are never the same after reading. This week I’ve recruited my #WriteNight girls to share with me the books of 2014 that ripped our hearts out. For me, the book that ruined me was… Read More

5 for Friday: Books TBR

In honor of the 2015 reading challenge, here are 5 books that I’ve been meaning to read (for a long while). We’re (we meaning me) going to get them knocked off the TBR pile and toss them on the read pile! Paper Towns by John Green: This book was actually on my TBR list BEFORE I heard it was going… Read More

What I’m Reading

What I’m Reading

Title: Legend Author: Marie Lu Genre: YA Fiction Thoughts: I just picked this one up earlier this week. Reading is slow between work and being a mommy (and I’m still a little hung over from Storm Siren), but I’m really enjoying this one. June, the main character, is being raised by her older brother. She’s uber smart and keeps getting into… Read More

2015 Book Challenge

Happy New Year! Wow. I can’t believe it’s already 2015 (and we’re already 7 days into it!) Life has been quite crazy the past couple of days—getting caught up with all the things work after the holidays, getting back into the “Elsie and Andy at school” grove, and just getting back into the grove of life. Anne over at Modern… Read More

The Margins Writing Challenge May is such a busy The Margins Writing Challenge

May is such a busy month! But we don’t want to let our writing suffer. This is not a word count goal or a “time spent” goal this is just a challenge to fit writing in little pockets of time — 3 minutes while you’re waiting for water to boil, 10 minutes while you’re in the last of the school pick up lines, 5 minutes while you’re waiting to check out at the store.

These little pockets of time, stolen to write, will help the words stack up. I hope you’ll join us this month!

What: the Margins Writing Challenge
When: May 1 - 31
Rule: write in the margins of your day and watch the words add up!
RSVP: kidding there’s no RSVP — but we’d love to know if you’re joining so we can cheer you on! Let us know in the comments below!

I also hate (and love) that this table at this coffee shop is the best place to work - my brain made it a rule. So … if you need me the next week, this is where you’ll find me, working on the M*rder Mystery, because IT’S DEADLINE WEEK!
I'm excited to join in the cover reveal for Karabo I'm excited to join in the cover reveal for Karabos by @lyndseylewellen, releasing from @enclavepublishing in October 2026! The first book in The Timebound Duology, a YA fantasy, is available to preorder in hardcover today.

This is one of my most anticipated reads for 2026!

Book Blurb: When sixteen-year-old homeschooled entomologist Winslet Nubek enters the elite, insect-hunting Tournament of Scarabs to save her family from ruin, she expects danger and magic bugs. Not time travel. Paired with a resentful cartographer, Rafe, who doubts her every move, Winslet accidentally triggers a forbidden time scarab and launches them both into volatile jumps through an ancient world.

As they struggle to hide their condition and stay in the competition, their time slips reveal buried truths about the scarabs—and the lies their glittering society is built on. With sinister forces closing in, Winslet and Rafe must capture legendary insects and expose the truth before the past bleeds into the present and destroys them both.

A Saturday in the life of an author on deadline. A Saturday in the life of an author on deadline.

10.07 AM - arrive at the coffee shop (where I actually got a parking spot AND a seat at my favorite table!)

11.08 AM - finally get some coffee. The line was long and I kept waiting for it to get shorter.

1.56 PM - trying not to panic because there’s still so much I want to get done and the coffee shop closing in a little over an hour.

2.53 PM - closing time. Time to pack up and leave. I’m also getting hungry, so place a Chick-fil-A order.

3.26 PM - lunch acquired.

3.48 PM - it just so happens that the Chick-fil-A shares a parking lot with a Barnes and Noble. I think some wandering must be had (and I somehow walked out without buying anything!)

5.01 PM - home again home again. A little reading in the office before dinner.
Y’all I have my edits back for the M*rder Myster Y’all I have my edits back for the M*rder Mystery (🎉), and I still don’t know where this Neely Spencer chapter is going (you know, the one I said I was going to post last week... or was it the week before?)

Instead of promising x number of chapters this month (and the next month), I’m going to promise that I’ll post the chapters as soon as I’m finished writing them. This means, there could be 4 chapters, or there could be 1 chapter (I’m shooting for the 4 ...) The M*rder Mystery has to be my main priority right now, but I’m hoping that I’ll have time for the whimsy (Neely Spencer is the whimsy). Because we call need a little more whimsy in our lives, right?

Sorry to disappoint anyone — I’m writing as fast as I can. Thank you so much for sticking with me! You guys are the best! And if you haven’t started reading Atlas of Neely Spencer, now is the perfect time to get caught up!
