ACFW2015 Recap

This is going to be the most random post in the history of random posts (but, if you know me, it isn’t that random). (1) If you’re driving, make sure you have lots of coffee, snacks, and rocking music (if you’re flying . . . well, I’m sure the same could apply). Apparently I’m twelve when it comes to music and… Read More

Business Cards

Business Cards

So going to conference, one thing I needed was business cards. I’ve been wanting to get business cards made for forever, so I was so excited for an excuse to actually get some made. Making (Writing) Habits

I’m the kind of girl who loves (loves) to check things off. Want me to be more productive? Just let me take five minutes to write out a list. I’m at that point in my novel where I can’t set a word goal everyday and meet it. I mean most all the words are written. Now is the time to… Read More

Creating a Project Notebook

Creating a Project Notebook

With every new writing project, I must have a Moleskine notebook (more later on my obsession with Moleskine notebooks). I mentioned something about my project notebook a few weeks ago on a tweet, and I got many requests to know exactly what I put in my notebooks. The simple answer? Everything. Brainstormings, random writing, plot and chapter outlines, character sketches, notes… Read More

Mr. You-Can’t-Do-It

Mr. You-Can’t-Do-It

The struggle with self-doubt and “Mr. You-Can’t-Do-It” is real tonight (Sunday) so I decided to pull this pep talk from the archives.  When I was eleven years old, I decided that I wanted to be the youngest romance writer ever (are you laughing yet?) I have stacks and stacks, files and files of character sketches, book ideas, outlines—tons… Read More

That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened.

I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.

You got this. I’m cheering for you.
