5 Things Saving My Life Right Now

About three weeks ago, our lives, much like yours I’m sure, turned upside down. While we weren’t/aren’t mandated with “shelter in place” or “quarantine” (new terms I’m learning the meanings of!), we have been basically sheltering in place for about three weeks now. The kids haven’t been in school, we haven’t been making trips to the library (or my favorite bookstore), no quick afternoon trips to hang out at the coffee shop. We’ve just been … home. While it hasn’t been hard, per se, there have been challenges (like when you have to explain to your daughter for the fiftieth time why she can’t have friends over to play … and it’s not even nine am yet …) — but I can’t complain. We’re safe and we’re healthy.

Here are five things in the last three weeks that have been saving my life.

1 // Lists

Oh my goodness. I mean I knew I liked making lists before, but they are seriously saving my life right now. The kids each have a checklist of things they have to do every day — from chores to schoolwork. In fact, it was working so well for the kids, I started making myself a daily checklist as well. I change it out weekly (because we’re living week to week at this point). If you’re interested in what goes on my list … I share every Sunday afternoon on Instastories.

2 // Three Things

Okay. Technically this is another list, but I literally wasn’t kidding when I said these were saving my life. Three things is a list of three things to just get done. It was created by Elise Blaha Cripe and you can learn more about three things in her book, Big Dreams, Daily Joys. She also explains it on Instagram + she has created fun templates that you can copy and share your things three every day on Instastories (I share mine most days there as well).

3// Marco Polo

Have you heard of the Marco Polo app? three days into week two, my sister and I made our brothers download it and then our parents. Basically it’s texting … with video. It’s made this whole social distancing thing a lot easier with the family.

4// Trade Coffee Subscription

Y’all know how serious I am about my coffee. Having coffee show up on my doorstep every two weeks has been a God-send. Basically it’s one less thing that I have to run into a store for (don’t worry … I’m doing grocery pick up — I don’t like going into grocery stores on the not worldwide pandemic days much less now), and there’s no telling if the stores would even have what I’d like anyway. I highly recommend + if you wanted to get a percentage off, you can use my code (CHRISTENKRUMM) at checkout (this isn’t an ad, but I do get a small commission for the ones that use my code when signing up for a subscription).

5// Library Pick-Up

Not like I needed anything else to read during the long hours of quarantine (side-eyes the TBR stack that’s almost falling over), but since our library was doing curbside pick-up, I had to take advantage — plus it gives me an excuse to see the smiling faces of my favorite librarians. I just added ten more books to the ever-growing pile. I think I’ll be good for a little bit! If you have a local library, check and see if they are doing curbside pick-up! It’s all kinds of awesome.

What are some things that have been saving your life lately?
