5 Things Saving My Life Right Now

5 things that are currently saving my life (really)

The Peloton App

I started running three (four?) weeks ago (like really running not just oh I run until it hurts and then take a break and then don’t go back for six months). It started because my brother wanted me to train with him for a marathon, and God love him … the running schedule he handed me just about killed me (or maimed me … either way …) However, even though I couldn’t keep up with the pace that was required of said running schedule, I did realize how much better I was feeling. It took a good two weeks to burn off all the random stress that was sticking around because of one thing or another. I’ve been running on the treadmill mainly because the gym has free childcare (for the win), and I’m not going to lie, give it music, give it an audiobook, treadmill running can still be very, very boring.

Peloton has a free 14-day trial and it was a game-changer. I love the upbeatness of the instructors (ok instructor, Robin is my favorite and I haven’t gotten the guts to try anyone else). If you’re wanting to start out running, but struggle with staying motivated, definitely give this app a try!

(Bonus: they also have spin, yoga, stretching, weight training, and so many more classes!)

Wal-Mart Grocery Pick-Up

It’s summer. I have three kids, and I’m solo parenting 85-90% of the time. Who has time to drag hot, sweaty kids through a store when there’s swimming to be done?! Wal-Mart pick up is my forever favorite — and so much of a time saver!

iTunes Music Subscription

Somehow we’ve been in the car a lot the past couple of months. (#summer?) There’s always a debate on what music to listen to and then … then there are the dreaded commercials on the radio. iTunes was giving out a 3-month free subscription, and it totally worked. I’m hooked. We have a road trip playlists, running playlists, dance party playlists, and morning worship playlists. It’s super fun!

Waterproof Bluetooth speaker

Y’all I am not a fan of taking showers. I mean. I’m a mom. Showers should be my favorite time right? I’m by myself and not breaking up a UFC worthy fight every three minutes, but nope. I get bored. Until now. Since I’ve crushed my running goals for the past three weeks, I celebrated with finally purchasing a speaker for the shower. You, guys. It’s amazing. I love it. I’ve been catching up on my podcasts and it’s the best.

Trenta cup from Starbucks

I’m fairly sure I’ve had this on my list before, but guys. It’s summer, and I’m trying my hardest not to drink all the coffee all day long. The Trenta cup is 31 ounces, so I drink 3-4 of these to get my water in for the day. Since there’s a straw, I can totally crush that amount. I just ask for an extra-large water whenever I visit Starbucks.

What’s saving your life this summer?

Do you have a comfort show? Someone asked this t Do you have a comfort show?

Someone asked this the other day over on Threads and it got me thinking… what is my comfort show?

Doctor Who def falls under the comfort show for me. Sadly I don’t actually own any of the seasons - but we have an amazing library. I needed a little comfort watch today.

Do you watch Doctor Who? Which Doctor is your favorite? Which Villian?

I love 10 + 11. And the Weeping Angels and the Silence are my favorite.

What is your favorite comfort show?

I’ve been a literary agent assistant (with Mary I’ve been a literary agent assistant (with Mary DeMuth Literary) for a few years now, and I’ve read a lot (a lot) of queries. I’ve picked up a thing or two and wanted to share them here...

- Do your research: before you query an agent, make sure they are representing what you are trying to query. It wastes everyone’s time if you query hoping to change an agent’s mind on a genre (a lot of time it’s not that we don’t want to sell what you’re offering, it’s that we don’t have the contacts to do so.)

- Don’t send via your phone: I mean, I guess you could query from your phone, but you’d better make sure that email is formatted within an inch of its life, and you haven’t left anything out. Take your time and make sure you are hurriedly jumping into something (that leaves a really bad first impression — you don’t want that.)

- Do format your email: Please, for the love of mac and cheese, do NOT send one terribly long run-together paragraph. Give me some white space. My eyes thank you

- No complaining about the standards + guidelines: Don’t complain in your query about the standards and guidelines set up by the agent you are querying. If you have a problem with them, just don’t query that agent.

Let me know if these tips were helpful! And be sure to follow along for more tips like these!
