What is the title of your book?

The Chronicle of the Three: Bloodline and The Chronicle of the Three: Armor-Bearer

What was the inspiration behind your book?

I love urban fantasy and paranormal stories. (Mostly via tv, but still.) So my imagination is always living somewhere in that space. A few years back I had this dream about a magical book, The Chronicle. I started asking myself questions about it. Who’s was it? What did it say? That kind of thing. Eventually those questions led to a story. Aside from that I would say some of my fave tv shows definitely influenced pieces/vibes in this trilogy. One of the biggest compliments I got was a reader saying my book was like a mash up of Buffy, Supernatural and Gilmore Girls. EEK!

Which character was your favorite to write, and why?

I kind of love all my characters, except Meredith and The Destroyer, I love to hate them. But I have to say they are the most fun to write. I love writing a good villain scene. That being said, Lucas was a big fave to write because he teeters on the edge of good and evil.

What are 3 things you can’t live without?

Jesus, my family and coffee.

What are 3 things you’d have to have when marooned on an island?

Coffee, Netflix, laptop with never ending battery. (I’m assuming my family is marooned with me. because I kind of like them and would want them there too.)

Who is your all-time favorite character from a book?

Again, tough questions because I love them all for different reasons. Most of the time it’s Claire. She kind of took over in the story for me and ended up more of a main character than I had originally planned. I also love Lucas, as mentioned, because he’s complex and snarky. And Maggie because she is fun and lovable and the kind of BFF we all want. And Michael because, well, he’s Michael. And…Oh I can’t do this.

What is currently on your nightstand?

A lamp, photos, my apple watch, two journals, my Bible, and a copy of Unraveling by Sara Ella.

What book are you currently reading?

Unraveling by Sara Ella and I am loving it. I have had almost no time to read lately so it seems to be taking me forever to finish it but it’s so good.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?

Wynonna Earp, but I have to mention how hard it is to wait for the second season of Stranger Things.

Favorite Starbucks drink?

Cafe Mocha.

What does a typical day of writing look like for you?

I get up, get my girls off to school, make a cup of coffee and some breakfast and sit down at the laptop. The intent is to write, write, write. Usually I scroll through Twitter and Pinterest way too much, reheat my coffee twelve times and wait for inspiration to strike.

Favorite quote?

There are so many. I actually have a whole journal of just quotes I love, but the one I keep going back to right now is from Lisa Bevere (or Christine Caine, I can never remember) “God did not save you to tame you.”

Current 4 favorite things

1. The tv show Supernatural. Always. (A close second is Arrow.)
2. this “Jesus loves your face” t-shirt
3. The book Lioness Arising by Lisa Bevere
4. Chicken tacos with sliced avocado

Tabitha Caplinger is a wife, mom, youth pastor and professed tv addict. It’s seriously a problem but she doesn’t plan on getting help anytime soon. Mostly because she loves the stories. She can’t help but get lost in the worlds created and invested in the lives of the characters. She brings that same passion for the story to her own writing. The first book in her YA trilogy, The Chronicle of the Three: Bloodline, is currently available with the second book releasing in early 2017. Aside from writing and watching tv, Tabitha can be found singing off key and dancing in the kitchen or car with her two adorably sassy daughters and awesome husband who she thinks is kind of cute.

The Margins Writing Challenge May is such a busy The Margins Writing Challenge

May is such a busy month! But we don’t want to let our writing suffer. This is not a word count goal or a “time spent” goal this is just a challenge to fit writing in little pockets of time — 3 minutes while you’re waiting for water to boil, 10 minutes while you’re in the last of the school pick up lines, 5 minutes while you’re waiting to check out at the store.

These little pockets of time, stolen to write, will help the words stack up. I hope you’ll join us this month!

What: the Margins Writing Challenge
When: May 1 - 31
Rule: write in the margins of your day and watch the words add up!
RSVP: kidding there’s no RSVP — but we’d love to know if you’re joining so we can cheer you on! Let us know in the comments below!

This is one of my most anticipated reads for 2026!

Book Blurb: When sixteen-year-old homeschooled entomologist Winslet Nubek enters the elite, insect-hunting Tournament of Scarabs to save her family from ruin, she expects danger and magic bugs. Not time travel. Paired with a resentful cartographer, Rafe, who doubts her every move, Winslet accidentally triggers a forbidden time scarab and launches them both into volatile jumps through an ancient world.

As they struggle to hide their condition and stay in the competition, their time slips reveal buried truths about the scarabs—and the lies their glittering society is built on. With sinister forces closing in, Winslet and Rafe must capture legendary insects and expose the truth before the past bleeds into the present and destroys them both.

A Saturday in the life of an author on deadline. A Saturday in the life of an author on deadline.

10.07 AM - arrive at the coffee shop (where I actually got a parking spot AND a seat at my favorite table!)

11.08 AM - finally get some coffee. The line was long and I kept waiting for it to get shorter.

1.56 PM - trying not to panic because there’s still so much I want to get done and the coffee shop closing in a little over an hour.

2.53 PM - closing time. Time to pack up and leave. I’m also getting hungry, so place a Chick-fil-A order.

3.26 PM - lunch acquired.

3.48 PM - it just so happens that the Chick-fil-A shares a parking lot with a Barnes and Noble. I think some wandering must be had (and I somehow walked out without buying anything!)

5.01 PM - home again home again. A little reading in the office before dinner.
Y’all I have my edits back for the M*rder Myster Y’all I have my edits back for the M*rder Mystery (🎉), and I still don’t know where this Neely Spencer chapter is going (you know, the one I said I was going to post last week... or was it the week before?)

Instead of promising x number of chapters this month (and the next month), I’m going to promise that I’ll post the chapters as soon as I’m finished writing them. This means, there could be 4 chapters, or there could be 1 chapter (I’m shooting for the 4 ...) The M*rder Mystery has to be my main priority right now, but I’m hoping that I’ll have time for the whimsy (Neely Spencer is the whimsy). Because we call need a little more whimsy in our lives, right?

Sorry to disappoint anyone — I’m writing as fast as I can. Thank you so much for sticking with me! You guys are the best! And if you haven’t started reading Atlas of Neely Spencer, now is the perfect time to get caught up!
