In the past, I’ve been very anti-(writing) rituals. To me, rituals can easily turn into just another excuse not to write (only write with a certain pen and lose it? Oh, can’t write. Have to write in a certain spot? What do you do when you travel, not write? Can only write in a certain temperature? . . . well, you get the idea.)
But lately, life has been thrown a little out of wack (hashtag quarantine life, amiright?) and I’ve been finding it so hard to get back into the creative, writing life. So while generally I’m anti-writing-rituals, I think rituals can also be helpful to get our brain on track when the world around it going bonker balls.
So this anti-(writing) ritual person is ritualizing her way into a creative brain with these three things:
1 // A yummy smelling candle
I currently have three that I’m bouncing between (trying not to use any of them up too quickly). The first is the Hemingway candle by Fly Paper Products that I got for Christmas from my brother via Bookish. The next one is a super yummy fall scent — you guys know how I love my fall scents — from TJ Trumar (which you can also purchase from Bookish). Lastly, a mini candle from Novelly Yours that was in my Go Scribbler box. Y’all, it’s lemon and coffee and has me really craving an espresso lemonade.
2 // Playlist
I love music. I listen to random music when I write, but I have to tell you, I’m really struggling when writing romcom with finding music that keeps me inspired! I’ve recruited one of my friends (who just happened to grow up surrounded my music) to help in creating some playlists for my current project — music, to me, makes all the difference. You can see some of my previous play lists over on Spotify!
3 //Prayer
Getting to create with the Creator is such an honor. He is the ultimate storyteller and He can help guide my pen.
And a bonus one. Coffee (but really. That’s a given right?)
So here’s to new rituals and crazy goals.
Do you have any plans for making sure you stay productive while staying home?
