What I’m Reading

What I’m Reading

title: Behind the Shattered Glass author: Tasha Alexander genre: Regency fiction thoughts: The latest Lady Emily mystery is proving to be quite enjoyable. It’s taking me forever to read, but that has more to do with my work list/writing list/mommy list than the fact if it’s good or not (it is).

Ponderings

Ponderings

It has been a quiet couple of weeks on the blog front. Rainy outside is making for cozy, lazy (ok not so lazy) days. This article (note: it’s pretty graphic/gritty—not for the faint of heart) has my soul hurting and my head thinking. What are we doing/teaching girls these days? We as adults—why are we ok with this? What are… Read More

title: Looking for Alaska author: John Green genre: YA Fiction thoughts: so far (and I’m not really that far in) it’s pretty gritty. Good, but gritty. It’s John Green so of course it’s going to be good writing. Considering this was a blind buy, I’m not sure what it’s about or what is about to happen, but let’s do… Read More

In Review: Steven Curtis Chapman The Glorious Unfolding

I still remember the first time I heard Steven Curtis Chapman. My dad had a business conference and my mom tagged along. After the long weekend, the returned and mom had to tell me about this great new guy that they heard sing at the conference—Steven Curtis Chapman. And they were given a complimentary copy of his new album (The… Read More

title: Fever author: Lauren DeStefano genre: YA Fiction thoughts so far: So far I’m liking it. I read the first book in the series, Wither, forever and a day ago and never picked up the second (blame it on life). I picked it up Friday night and read the first 1/2 before turning out my lights. I couldn’t stop reading!

So maybe one of these days I’ll be cool like Regan and do a YouTube video with all this fun information, but today is not that day. Starting at the bottom and working our way up . . . I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.
