Not only can you check out books, but if your library doesn’t have a particular book, you can a) interlibrary loan it or b) request they purchase the book. The other day I was shocked (shocked) to discover that… Read More

Dealing with the critique

Dealing with the critique

Critiques in the writing world are so valuable. For me it helps me stay on track—am I effectively getting across the message I set out to give? Is my story entertaining? Book Report: Dancing on the Head of a Pen

Robert Benson’s Dancing on the Head of a Pen is so much more than just another writing book. More about the book: A compelling… Read More

I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.

You got this. I’m cheering for you.
