The Pirate and the Firefly (by: Tara McClary Reeves and Amanda Jenkins—yes, “the Left Behind series” Jenkin’s daughter-in-law) is a cute book about a little boy named Oliver (even more reasons to love this story) who learns to stand up for what’s right instead of giving in to peer pressure.
The bright, fun illustrations, and the fact that Oliver was a “pirate”, had my children captivated (not to mention Oliver is also their brother’s name. . .) The fact that this book teaches such a valuable, relatable lesson was what I liked best about it. There is even a short devotional and talking points included at the end of the book to connect with you children after the story.
