Lately I’ve been trying to be more mindful about reading to the kids before bed. I was noticing some attitude issues going on. Once I started reading at bedtime would you believe the attitude issues all but cleared up?! (Given we still have our tired days . . .) Here’s what we picked up this month:
Elsie and I are reading Baby Island by Carol Ryrie Brink. This one was one of my favorites when I was growing up as was it my mom’s when she was a girl. I was so excited to find it at the thrift store last month (my copy from growing up was loaned out never to be seen again). Mary and Jean get shipwrecked on an island with four babies. It’s such a great girl adventure book! Elsie is loving it (and she loves it even more since it was her Yia-Yia’s favorite).
Boy books for the younger crowd are a little harder to come by (if you have any good suggestions, please leave them in the comments!) After I started reading to Elsie, Drew couldn’t be left out, so after digging around in my boxes of books (no, they are still not unpacked) I came up with Beverly Cleary’s Otis Spofford—who, as the cover states, loves stirring up excitement. Drew and Oliver both seem to be enjoying this one, but Drew can’t wait to finish it so we can start a Paddington book I found at a second hand store.
What were some of your favorite books as a kid?
