The Weekender

*Went to the library. Where all the shelves were in random places and rearranged. Someone forgot to send me the memo that they were working on the floors — ripping up carpet. Made finding the books I needed a very interesting adventure. Especially pushing a ginormous stroller and a kid strapped to me.

*Took a wonderful drive to see my best friend. Had to take her some books and movies and coffee. She’s stuck at home with sick kids (and being sick herself). Even though it was only 20 minutes it was a wonderful driveway visit. (We didn’t get out of the car so we wouldn’t get sick).

*Braved Wal-Mart with two kids. French fries helped, but it will be a while before I want to attempt that again (I’ll probably do it again next week — you gotta do what you gotta do).

*Took an impromptu visit to my sister’s house at 9:30 on Friday night.

*…Where E saw her very first UFC fight (thank you brother Brandon). She was all about fists in the air saying “Yeah, yeah!!” until she saw the blood. Then she said “Boo, boo” and proceeded to kiss the TV screen. (probably won’t be watching many of those fights with E…)

*Got stopped by a state trooper road block on the way home from my sister’s (it’s what I get for not leaving until 12:30). First time ever (and it was, thankfully, very uneventful).

*Spent most of Saturday on the couch with a baby who didn’t want to be put down (or sleep at ALL) and a daughter who just wanted to watch Cars over and over and over … (we watched it 2x)

*Adding ten new mosquito bites to my collection. Apparently I’m collecting mosquito bites now.

*After four days, finally finished the laundry.

*Found out what a wonderful thing a crock pot is. I have a feeling we are going to become really really good friends.

*Started a verse by verse study of the Proverbs 31 woman. Love!

I’m really excited to bring you this story — yes, I’ve been talking about it for years and this is the year it is finally happening!!
That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened That was twelve years ago... and I almost listened.

I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.

You got this. I’m cheering for you.
