It has never been any question how much of a coffee lover I have been. I have always liked the stuff — from the first time my grandma let me take a drink from her cup (coffee and milk) to the time my dad took me out on a “date” and we went to the local coffee shop (and of course I got a fou-fou drink). In high school I decided that I wanted to own a coffee shop/book store out of college (totally couldn’t hack business classes though so that dream never happened). I’ve always been told that when you’re pregnant and nursing you can’t have caffeine. While I’m pregnant I’m pretty much a stickler on that rule for the first trimester. After that it’s fair game. While nursing Elsie I still consumed mass amounts of coffee (aka caffeine) and it never bothered her in the least bit (of course now she asks for coffee. Connection? Maybe).
Enter Drew. I drank caffeine after he was born and it didn’t really seem to bother him. And then I couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t sleeping throughout the day… and then it hit me. My coffee drinking addiction (caffeine) wasn’t hitting him until the next day (evenings were always normal although I’m convinced that it I didn’t catch it early on, nights would have started going too). Coffee, Dr. Pepper, what have you — it all keeps him up the next day.
A few months ago, when we were living with him, my brother introduced me to Tazo’s Calm tea with a dalop of honey. I liked it then. I am seriously in love with it now. Best thing ever. And it has made my coffee to (caffeine free) tea switch go very smoothly.
I am now looking for some new teas to try. Any suggestions?
