Seven things that are saving my life right now

Screen Shot 2016-02-09 at 9.00.17 PM

This idea isn’t original. I’m copying Anne at Modern Mrs Darcy who copied someone else (who possibly copied someone else). The idea is brilliant. In those hard days, the days you want to give up (or take really long naps or hide under your desk with what was supposed to be your daughter’s school Valentine’s Day chocolate) you share the things that are saving your life right now. So, here are seven things that are saving my life right now.

Poldark. I heard about this series when it first aired last summer. I jumped online (because at the time we didn’t have internet and we may have been in the middle of a move), only to find out I missed the first three episodes on free play. Now, it’s on Amazon Prime and I’m so loving watching an episode (or two) a night (I’m trying to savor and not gobble down like I did a certain series last month and lost all the sleep after binge watching almost all night).

My little heater. The mornings have been chilly, but by the afternoons it’s almost nice enough to throw open the windows. My little heater tucked next to my desk has been keeping me nice and toasty in the morning and bonus, if I shut my office door while making my coffee/tea it warms my office up as well.

Peppermint tea. I’m not sure what it has been the last couple of days, but coffee in the morning hasn’t been cutting it. I’ve been craving peppermint tea. It’s been the perfect morning treat (don’t worry, coffee has been my afternoon pickup).

Clean house. The few hours after school, but before dinner, have been my “pick-up” hours. I leave the dishes all day, and when E gets home from school, they kids get a snack and get kicked to the back yard. Then I clean and straighten before making dinner (Grandfather taught me you had to have a clean kitchen before you started cooking and the lesson just kinda stuck). After dinner, during bath time, I straighten the living room, kids rooms, and office. By the time everyone goes to bed, the house is clean and I can spend a few minutes breathing before turning in myself. It has been amazing (clean houses are my favorite).

Sugar coconut face scrub. I made a batch of this a couple weeks ago and I’m still in love. After looking for more ways to cut back in the random toxins in everyday household items (it’s really scary once you start looking into it!) I found a recipe online for a face scrub from coconut oil and sugar. Holy moly, this stuff is amazing. I have abandoned all other face washes. This is my favorite (and I think my skin is liking it way more too).

Rice bags. Typing and terrible posture (plus all the other random mommy things you do) has taken it’s toll on my shoulders. Heating up rice bags for my shoulders have worked wonders (and going back to those cold mornings? They help keep me from shivering too!)

Sock friends. A few months back my writer-buddy Jaime and I joked back and forth that because of our cold feet, we were going to send each other socks. Somehow it turned into a regular thing. Funny how an awesome pair of socks in the mail can turn your whole day around.

What are some things that are saving your life right now? I’d love to know!

    I’m SO stealing this idea!

And thanks for clearing that up about the peppermint tea 😉

I CANNOT cook if my kitchen is messy, either. Trying to keep my house cleaner by doing 15-minute “drills”
