#RealLifeWriter: Jaime Jo Wright

jaime jo wright

Enter below for your chance to win a copy of Jaime Jo Wright’s The House on Foster Hill!

What is the title of your book?
The House on Foster Hill

What was the inspiration behind your book?
Dead people. Ok, seriously but not seriously. LOL! I love mystery and suspense and elements of romance sprinkled in. The inspiration is really rooted in my love of exploring all things abandoned.

Which character was your favorite to write, and why?
Mmmmm, this is a tough one. Probably Gabriella. Because she cannot speak, and yet, she was a main character. You’ll understand once you read the book. ?

What are 3 things you can’t live without?
I’m going to answer as though the Bible and family is already a given. So, outside of them: Coffee, a soft bed, a fluffy blanket. Basically, I’m a cat.

What are 3 things you’d have to have when marooned on an island?
Again, sans Bible and family?
Coffee, a soft bed, a fluffy blanket. I’m seeing a pattern here.

Who is your all-time favorite character from a book?
Oh gawsh. Probably Jane Eyre. She’s strong but timid. Independent but needing to be cherished. Smart but remarkably naïve. She’s a conundrum on paper.

What is currently on your nightstand?
I don’t have a nightstand. I have an old cast iron pot. Does that count?
A book about the history of asylums. Light bedtime reading.

What book are you currently reading?
A Murder in Time, by Julie McElwain (FYI – rated R and not inspirational, so I’m not endorsing it)

What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Death Comes to Pemberly

Favorite Starbucks drink?
Venti quad shot flat white with 4 pumps hazelnut syrup and almond milk

What does a typical day of writing look like for you?
Wake up, chaotic race to get ready for work and get kids to school, drop kids off at school, go to day job, come home, supper, family time, get kids ready for bedtime, fall onto the couch at 8PM, pound out words and hit the hay by 10 pm.

Favorite quote?
I don’t have one? Eeek. Is that awful??? I have a horrible, HORRIBLE memory and I can never remember quotes or lines from movies, or movie titles, or even names.

Current 4 favorite things
Smoked venison roast with wild game rub (don’t ask, it’s just … amazing)
A ball point pen I received from Northwestern Bible College. I don’t know where they got it for promotional purposes, but dude, it writes like a $400 pen.
Crest toothpaste. I’ve always used Colgate, but wow. Hello Crest!
“Balance” blend essential oil from DoTerra. It’s like, calmness in a mist.

Love this interview! I liked Gabriella too. She had so much to do with the story, but didn’t say a word. Great job with her character, making her come to life as a person. Jane Eyre is a favorite character of mine as well. The history of asylums, haven’t read that one lol. Can’t wait to read your next book. Loved The House on Foster Hill!
