What I’ve Been Reading Lately

FullSizeRender-1

I always love linking up every month with Anne’s What I’ve Been Reading Lately posts. For the past couple of months, I’ve been off my reading game, only able to finish one maybe two books a month. This month I feel like I’m back in the groove of things having read five (now, if I can only remember to update my GoodReads)!

Self-Editing for Fiction Writers | Renni Browne: I read this one with my crit partner. I enjoyed reading a couple chapters and discussing them weekly. At times I wish I was in a class room listening to a lecture, instead of reading so many examples, but there were some techniques and “rules” that finally clicked into place with an “Ah-ha!” moment.

Front Lines | Michael Grant: I really enjoyed this one. Women participating in combat during WWII. Great premise, great storytelling—all which made the 576 page tome seem less daunting (and I’m so very excited for book two!)

Winter | Marissa Meyer: I finally finished it! It took how many months (completely my fault—it had nothing to do with the writing or storyline). I mostly listened to this one on audiobook, which in part, is why it took me so long to finish it. I really liked the conclusion to the series, and I’m looking forward to whatever Marissa has coming up!

Unblemished | Sara Ella: YOU GUYS! This book doesn’t come out until October, and I really can’t wait for you to get your hands on it! Action, adventure, romance, PIRATES—this book has it all! You’re going to want to run and pre-order this one now. Just trust me!

Girl Against the Universe | Paula Stokes: This was my vacation read this year. It deals with so many hard issues, yet Paula writes them with grace and a dash of humor which makes this a fun, entertaining read.

Currently Reading: Operation Zulu: Redemption (recently released in the paperback form and it is fabulous. I’m loving it), The Secret of Pembrooke Park (this is my audible listen of the month!)

What have you been reading lately?

Sounds like you’ve had some great reads lately. I’m VERY excited about Sara Ella’s novel, Paula’s was one that caught my eye a while back, and of course, anything Ronie Kendig writes is amazing! 🙂

Some of my recent reads are Kristy Cambron’s latest (SO GOOD), Becky Wade’s latest, and currently, Joanne Bischof’s August release.

Ooh, I am adding the self-editing book to my TBR list! Sounds like a great resource for my writing. I just finished The Elements of Style by Strunk and White. Lots of great info in there!

The Margins Writing Challenge May is such a busy The Margins Writing Challenge

May is such a busy month! But we don’t want to let our writing suffer. This is not a word count goal or a “time spent” goal this is just a challenge to fit writing in little pockets of time — 3 minutes while you’re waiting for water to boil, 10 minutes while you’re in the last of the school pick up lines, 5 minutes while you’re waiting to check out at the store.

These little pockets of time, stolen to write, will help the words stack up. I hope you’ll join us this month!

What: the Margins Writing Challenge
When: May 1 - 31
Rule: write in the margins of your day and watch the words add up!
RSVP: kidding there’s no RSVP — but we’d love to know if you’re joining so we can cheer you on! Let us know in the comments below!
