For the last couple of weeks, my daughter has been listening to music on repeat at night to help her sleep. Being the “good” mother that I am, I wanted to make sure that she is listening to something soothing and relaxing—and my typical classical music wouldn’t cut it (she’s not a huge fan. Says it gives her nightmares. Go figure).
So for the past couple of weeks she has been listening to the same CD at night on repeat—the same music. It had me quickly searching for something more. My standards for “sleep” music are pretty high, seeing as my favorite Mozart and Beethoven (nightmares? ok she might have a point) had been x’ed, I kept looking.
When I found out Christy Nockels’ new album was called Be Held—Lullabies for the Beloved I knew that my search was over.
This album has just about everything for my high sleep-music standards. It’s calming with uplifting lyrics accompanied by Christy’s amazing vocals. Be Held is a compilation of fifteen songs—some will be familiar (such as How Could I Ask for More? and Sound of Music—which just happens to be one of our favorite movies) while others are brand new songs penned by Christy and her husband. In the words of Christy, “The heart behind Be Held — Lullabies for the Beloved is that a new mother can sing these songs over her newborn baby but in the very same breath, find herself sung over by her Heavenly Father (Zephaniah 3:17).”
From one mother to another, Thank you, Christy. This album is amazing, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with my daughter.
You can get a copy of Be Held — Lullabies for the Beloved here (do it. I promise you won’t be disappointed!)
