Water is a huge part of the HCG diet. The HCG diet directions state to take your weight, divide by two, and drink that many ounces of water per day. Per day. That’s a bunch of water!
The reasoning behind this is really simple. If your body isn’t getting enough water, it thinks it is in drought, and it will store any water you intake (resulting in “water weight” … imagine that…) So by drinking a ton of water, your body stays hydrated and doesn’t store water.
This was my duh moment. Really it’s a good rule HCG diet or not.
Of course, being the work at home mom who doesn’t have brain space to remember how many ounces of water she’s drank already, I had to come up with a fool proof system for getting my water (and no, I haven’t been able to find a 90 ounce glass out there…) Always one to drink things better and faster with a straw, I got a fancy shmancy reusable cup from Target (the best store on earth). Being 20 ounces I know I have to drink 4-5 in order to get my allotted ounces in for the day. I write the day on a piece of Washi tape (also purchased at Target although they don’t call it Washi Tape) and I mark a tally whenever I fill up the cup. Not only is it a fun challenge to see if you can get all your water in for the day, you also won’t forget what day it is… because it’s written on your cup that won’t leave your side. Ever.
