Flavoring Water with Essential Oils

IMG_1636

Hello, my name is Christen, and I’m quite addicted to essential oils.

One of my favorite things to do with my essential oils is flavor my water. We moved a little over six months ago to an itty bitty small town with some funky tasting water. Now this girl doesn’t really drink much other than coffee and water and the occasional iced tea. My husband fixed the problem for him with MIOs and other drink flavors, but I just can’t get over the fact that it’s artificial stuff you’re adding to your water to make it drinkable. So, I turned to my essential oils. Now, not only is my water tasty, I’m also helping my body in one way or another.

My favorite oils to flavor my water: peppermint, orange, grapefruit, and lime. (Note: when using essential oils to flavor your water, it’s best to use a glass container. Honestly the more research I do the more I’m convinced glass is best).

Peppermint: I only add about 1 drop of peppermint oil to my water—this is some strong stuff. Anything over 2 drops is way to strong, and I end up gagging. What I love about the peppermint, is not only is your water tasty, your breath is super fresh too. Peppermint is also said to help curb your appetite (so far it’s been working for me!)

Grapefruit: I was actually a little nervous to try this one. I’ve drank water with some grapefruit seed extract, and it is bit-ter. This is not that. 1 to 2 drops is best, and it’s a nice citrusy flavor. Grapefruit is known to help with metabolism and cellulite (I need to do some more research — I’m not sure if it only helps with cellulite if you rub it on trouble areas or if it will also work with ingesting it). It also helps with detoxing.

Lime: I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of lime. I call it my non-calorie key lime pie! Lime also helps alleviate stress, sore throat, gallstones, promotes focus, clarity, and memory as well as helps with weight management. (I add 2-3 drops).

Orange: Orange is my newest obsession. Like lime, I swear orange is sweet. Very tasty.  Orange helps with anxiety and depression. Helps boost immunity and helps whiten teeth! (I add 2-3 drops of this one as well).

If you want to try any of these out, let me know! I can get you the hook up!

And don’t forget this is your last week to get in on the giveaway!
