Today I am 30.
We aren’t going to get all caught up in the numbers. 30 is just a number—a new decade—and I’m excited to get started.
So here we are. 30. This crazy plan of mine came totally randomly one day a couple months ago (inspired in part by another lovely runner Jessica). I’m calling it “5k 12.” I’m running one 5k a month for my 30th year.
This is going to be insane. Partly because my loathing of running. But here’s the crazy secret—listening?—I want to love to run. I’ve always wanted to run a 5k, yet I’ve never taken the time to train or sign up for one. So, I decided why not run 12 in one year?
30 seems like the age where you need to do something just a little crazy in order to keep yourself on your toes. My first 5k is towards the end of this month. I have a random time goal that I’d like to finish by and I’ll work up from there. I’ve even recruited friends to run with me (although one can’t start until January as she’s leaving me to go to London for the semester).
So 30. Here we go.
