3 Things I Learned from the Profitability Workshop

Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 8.11.13 PM

Prior to Tuesday I had attended one, maybe two webinars (or online workshops) in my entire life. I now have two under my belt (I’m quickly becoming a webinar junkie). Angela England and her partner-in-crime, Kirsten Oliphant’s webinar Learn to write and publish profitable ebooks, ecourses, and host webinars is the perfect webinar for all writers (or those with big lofty goals of actually making money with their craft). I’ve known Angela for forever, and I just “met” Kirsten Tuesday, but let me tell you — I already know she’s awesome.

While this webinar is leading up to their course Creative Profitability, this is a very informative, non-smarmy (that’s a new word I learned! New fave!) webinar, the re-play does come down on Sunday night (as well as all the package deals . . . that you don’t want to miss!) so you’ll want to click over and watch before it’s gone for ever (from what I hear about weather across the US, this weekend is the perfect time to grab a steaming cup of your favorite beverage and sit down and watch—oh, and bring a notebook. You’ll want to take notes.)

The top three things I took away from the webinar:

(1) You absolutely, 100% need an email list. Blog or not you must have an email list. It’s not enough to just have “sign up to never miss a post” sign up forms. You have to have an email list. (So, of course I have one. . . you can sign up over there on my side bar towards the bottom of the page).

(2) You should purchase your name as a domain name. I love the fact that Angela has already purchase all of her kids’ names as domain names. Even if you aren’t “big” now or have much going on—it is important to be able to be consistent in your social media site when someone needs to find you online.

(3) Make sure your sell yourself, not other businesses and companies. Want to make the most bang for your buck? Make sure you are able to plug yourself and your product, instead of the other way around. (Also, never pass up the chance for a guest post—all the chances to sell yourself!)

This is just a fraction of the information that was shared. You also have a chance (until Sunday) to purchase Creative Profitability for a faction of the cost plus add on another great course from either Angela or Kirsten. Like I mentioned earlier the webinar, as well as the price cut, goes away on Sunday, so you’ll want to check this out while you still can!

I’m really glad I didn’t. To be honest, this person wasn’t wrong. At the time I wasn’t very good at writing. It was early on in my career. Hearing that I should give up was a punch to my gut and I had two choices.

I could listen, and not write ever again.

OR

I could buckle down and get better.

I chose to get better. I still don’t think I’ve “arrived” but I am a lot better than I was then.

So this is me telling you — don’t ever stop dreaming, don’t ever stop learning, and don’t take bad advice.

You got this. I’m cheering for you.
