So far we are loving school. It’s been three weeks, and I have already re-done my schedule and re-planned for next year.
Our previous schedule — me getting up early, getting the kids up early, working in the afternoon — was. not. working. First off, my kids were horribly cranky all day long. It was horrible. Then by afternoon time I was shot. I didn’t feel like calling up the brain power to actually work. And with my phone dinging all morning long with work coming in . . . I was behind before I ever got started, and I was having the hardest time getting all my hours in for the week.
Enter the flip-flop. I get up crazy early (6:30 — this is crazy for me. . . I’m not a morning person) and work. I have my hours in by noon, fix lunch, put Drew down for a nap, and E and I have one on one time. It’s been going so much smoother. Apparently my kids need to sleep in until at least 9 in order to be decent humans. Works for me. E has been loving school. A few days ago she pouted. POUTED because we were finished for the day. So, after Andy and I talked, we did MORE school — I pulled out the readers and we’re going through the “blue book”. She’s loving it. She loves “reading” the alphabet.
Also, next year, I’m not even going to dream of starting school before Labor day. Sheesh. I feel like our life was one thing after another, and I was getting so discouraged because it seemed like school was getting put on the back burner (which it’s preschool so technically that was “ok”, but if I can’t make preschool work how would I make any other grade work?! Yes, I’m saying I need preschool 1 and 2 in order to get a routine in place. I’m lame.)
Another something that we added into our “school schedule” is planned library days with another homeschool family. We love them. They are the best. So basically our “school” ever other Tuesday is a library day. We still need to get our . . . eh-hem. . . library skills down. That’s something that we will be working on the next time we go to the library (otherwise we might just be banned from the library).
So there you have it. Three weeks in, we’re just figuring it out, and E is in love.
