I love reading to my kids. I love (hopefully) instilling a love for the written word in them while they are young (their daddy hates reading and hates books—I can’t let that trait pass on to them can I?). This month we’re reading a fun book about a spunky little boy name Rasmus. Written by the same author as Pippi Longstocking, who my daughter loves, Rasmus and the Vagabond is a fun read.
In Rasmus and the Vagabond we meet Rasmus, a nine-year-old orphan boy who just wants to be adopted (even though he’s just a boy with straight hair). First off let me say I loved Rasmus and wanted to adopt him, but moving on. After running away from the orphanage where he lives, Ramus meets . . . the Vagabond and finds in him a friend and mentor. The only thing Rasmus has always wanted is a family to call his own, but now that he has Oscar, he’s not so sure what he wants.
I loved reading the adventures of Rasmus and his mentor. It was as easy and enjoyable for me as it was for the kids to listen! With summer coming up, this is the perfect book to climb under a shade tree, sit on a threadbare quilt, and read to the kids while they play!
