I feel like I go through reading slumps every other month and then read all the books like a mad person. I hardly read anything in March/April (given I was gone for 3/4s of March and spent the majority of April getting caught up on client work from being gone …) but in May I read six books! And it’s only going to get better because summer is here! Does anyone else feel like they struggle with this?
Read anything of note lately? I’d love to hear about it!
The Raven Boys | Maggie Stiefvater
The majority of this book I listened to the — the narrator, Will Patton, is amazing. I love Stiefvater’s writing. Beautiful.
Gemina | Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
YOU GUYS! This was probably my favorite read of this month. (And I’m so glad that book three is already out … now if whoever has checked it out from the library could kindly return it since it’s like two weeks overdue …) These books are pure genius. This one may be my favorite one of the series (but then again I haven’t read book three yet).
Blue Nights | Joan Didion
This one was another buddy read with Elissa (you can see more of our thoughts on this one later). Joan Didion has a way with words. Even if some sentences seemed a little jumbled, they were always enormously beautiful. Such a heartbreaking memoir. (And I’m really wanting to read The Year of Magical Thinking — anyone out there read that one?)
A Crimson Warning | Tasha Alexander
Ahhh, Tasha Alexander. Jane Austen with a murder mystery twist. I can normally fly through these books (because they are that good). This is the sixth book in the series and I’m determined to finish the series before October when the new book comes out.
Holes | Louis Sachar
This one was a read aloud with my boys. O keeps mentioning “that one book with the holes” — I think he’s finally starting to realize that we moved on to another book. Ha! The boys liked it ok. I really enjoyed it.
The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill | Julie Klassen
I read this with my best friend. Loved it — I always love Julie Klassen books. If you like regency romance, you can’t go wrong!
