Have you heard of Story Party? I’ve been an audible subscriber off and on for a couple of years. Mostly I get audiobooks for the kids to listen to at bedtime — we never go without. A few months ago I downloaded the Audible Original Story Party and, you guys, it has ruined us.
Story Party is live storytelling with some of the most imaginative storytellers from across the country (plus, if you get the entire collection it’s over 8 hours long!) When I first downloaded it, it was something to listen to during school traffic (it’s really bad in this small town), to keep my four-year-old from getting road rage (yeah, it was bad). It was perfect because each story was only a few minutes long — perfect for getting from here to there. But then not only did all three of the kids want to listen to it on the way to school, but they also wanted to listen to it at bedtime as well. When we finally finished all 8 hours, they wanted to listen to it again … and again … and again … and now it is literally the only thing they will listen to at bedtime.
While all three of these podcasts aren’t “story” based, they are all three super fun and my kids love them. (As much as we love these, we’re still asking Audible when the next collection is coming!)
Story Pirates – Thanks to my Mama friend for pointing this one out. A group of actors, comedians, improvisers, and musicians adapt stories written by kids into sketch comedy and musical theater. The result is super fun (and mostly hilarious).
WOW in the World – I think this one might be the favorite of the three. WOW in the World is produced by NPR. Hosted by Mindy and Guy Raz, it takes kids on a journey through the wonders of science and technology.
Stories Podcast – takes classic fairy tales, stories, and original works and perform them. This one, to me, is most like Story Party (only not with a live audience). We just discovered this one and are enjoying the backlist while we wait for the new season.
