My husband completely surprised me this year and decided that I needed an iPad for Mother’s Day (I went with the mini instead of the full size because while I like my computers big, apparently I like my tablets on the small size). It was an awesome surprise. I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t use it as much as we thought I would — lately it is my almost constant companion other than the two (three) littles and my iPhone. I’m getting much of my novel re-writes written on it (funny enough it’s Sunday morning during Andy’s worship practice that I’m getting my writing time in).
A couple weeks after I got my mini I was getting frustrated because, while I love my external keyboard, I didn’t always need to be using it when out and about and it was a little inconvenient to try to pull the mini out of the keyboard/protective cover every time I wanted to use the mini only (grocery store Netflix distraction anyone?) Thus began my journey of looking for a case that I could slip my mini in and stash in my purse.
Scouring high and low the only “cases” I could find where the protective kind — which I didn’t need since it’d be an inconvenience in the opposite sense when I wanted to use the keyboard (didn’t want to have to take a protective cover off). I really only wanted a “bag” more or less that I could put my mini in (and later came to the realization that I wanted something that would fit my keyboard too so they’d always be together). And then I remembered the big stash of leftover felt (which covers the inside of my cover) I had from a project as well as stacks and stacks of scrap material that was just waiting for a good project. So I set out to make one.
I basically laid everything on the fabric and cut — nothing perfect or scientific about it. I threw it together while watching one episode of Once Upon a Time (first season was better but I’m holding out with the second . . .)
While it’s far from perfect (there’s a hair tie for the the latch and my seam got a little wonky at one point), it is perfect for me. I can stash my mini, keyboard, and Moleskin and go. Everything I need in one place (and not randomly floating around my Mary Poppins of a purse) It’s great.
