Most people think I’m insanely crazy for wanting to start school with E this year. I’m a nerd. I love school. I love learning. So how could I not start “school”? I’m using the term “school” loosely here. We are not going to be going through books or have a hard schedule. We’ll most likely be doing school once maybe twice a week and on the days that daddy works. It’s going to be the E and Me time. The time when D is either napping or content in his swing (which we have yet to get out of storage).
Here is my loose schedule of what we’ll be doing (you know – the one that is in my head, but I have yet to actually put to paper)
ABCs –
We’re going to have color sheets to color and learn about the ABCs. I’m also planning on getting a magnetic alphabet – Target has some in the dollar bin right now. I also have a couple books in mind to get – Dr. Seuss’s ABCs, The Sleepy Little Alphabet, and Chika Chika Boom Boom. Do you recommend any other good ones or some good/fun number books?
Numbers –
I have yet to find color sheets that I like. So far everything is all about learning to write them. A good thing, but a little to advanced for E at this point. Getting the magnetic numbers too.
Bible –
Haven’t decided what I want to do here yet. I’d really like to get the ABC scripture cards that my mom had for us when we were littles, but she can’t find them and I haven’t been able to find them online. Maybe eBay? Don’t know. Anyone know of a good place to order ABC scripture cards?
Home Ec (of sorts) –
We’re going to be doing fun stuff. “Cooking”, playing with play dough, paper dolls, doing puzzles, etc – Yes, I’m totally aware that not all of this falls into the “Home Ec” category, but in my mind it’s where it goes.
Literature –
This might not actually be a part of “school”, but as our regular bed time routine (as it is now). We’re currently reading through the Besty and Tacy series. Love the “old fashioned” series. E is loving this series too.
Also, going to be working a lot on colors, but that will be thrown in with everything else (color sheets, play dough, etc).
Things on the to get/do list:
— A puzzle rack. E already has a good collection of puzzles and currently they are all in plastic bags. Not so child friendly. I would like for them to be accessible to E. I know I’ll probably regret that decision later, but then again another “home ec” class could be organizing and cleaning. HA!
— Paint the back of the cabinets. Since we’re going to be totally remodeling the kitchen, I’m going to be painting the back of the cabinets with chalkboard paint. I’m thinking about making it magnetic as well.
— School supplies: glue sticks, colors, etc. Probably not really needed, but I’m a nerd when it comes to school supplies. Love them. This gives me a really good excuse to actually buy them.
Do you have a school plan? Are you excited to start or apprehensive?

OK so I totally understand! I told Dustin if we decide to home school we will be in BIG trouble! I Love to buy school stuff also. And I am starting “school”with P also. I bought some flash cards with colors and shapes, and also ABC’s on them. And new crayons as well!

There is a board game from Crainium called Caribou that deals in fun letters and colors and numbers. It’s really fun for any age (with help), it has bouncy balls, a little key and little cards and all kinds of interesting things. I used to love playing it with our babies that were learning that fun stuff. K, so now I miss it, I need to go play Caribou with myself…
