At the beginning of this month, I traveled down to Rockwall, Texas for the second Mary DeMuth Literary Retreat. (Oh, btw, if you didn’t know, one of my day jobs is the literary agent assistant to Mary DeMuth.) Even though this was a work trip, it’s always a blast.
Day one was filled with teaching by Mary, as well as hot spots — where everyone in attendance gets ten minutes in the hot seat to brainstorm something they’ve been working on or need help with. We talked about next projects, social media, podcasting… Honestly, it’s one of my favorite times of the retreat (I love workshopping problems)
Day two, Mary shared for a bit, and then each author teaches on a topic. I love that we’re able to learn from each other (I didn’t teach anything this year — I mostly just made sure the snacks and coffee stayed full and lunch arrived on time.)
The venue this year was the perfect industrial vibe. It really made me want to find an old warehouse and turn it into a chic office space.
Finally, on the last evening, we were all together, we ate and the best little bookstore bistro in downtown Rockwall. It was perfect, and if you’re local (or ever find yourself that way) you should totally visit.
Already miss everyone, and looking forward to next year.
