Since we have started eating “cleaner” and “whole” the typical dairy ice cream is off limits. I do love my ice cream, especially during the hot summer months. I was super excited when my mom reminded me that you can make ice cream out of frozen bananas—seriously. The texture very similar, however, you aren’t getting all the sugar and calories from “real” ice cream. (It’s dairy, soy, gluten, sugar free—except, of course, the sugar you’ll naturally get from the fruit).
To make your ice cream base, you’ll need frozen bananas (that’s it). Stick them in the blender and blend until smooth. Be patient. You may need to stop your blender and scrape the sides of the chunky frozen banana (and you’ll probably going to wonder if I was full of it because the banana chunks don’t resemble anything close to ice cream). Keep with it! In about five minutes your “ice cream” will be silky smooth!
Now that your base is done, you can add anything to it. Add strawberries and cocoa for a banana-strawberry-chocolate flavor (oh yum). Feeling a little nutty? Add nuts! The possibilities are endless!
