I still remember the first time I heard Steven Curtis Chapman. My dad had a business conference and my mom tagged along. After the long weekend, the returned and mom had to tell me about this great new guy that they heard sing at the conference—Steven Curtis Chapman. And they were given a complimentary copy of his new album (The Great Adventure—yes this album came out in 1992 and if you do the math, I was only 6). I remember that album being my favorite for a very long time. I loved, loved how the album started (the instrumental part) and was super excited when the first track of The Glorious Unfolding started out instrumentally.
Steven Curtis Chapman is still one of my favorite to this day (funny the stuff we hold on to from our childhood). Chapman’s song Love Take Me Over has been one of my favorites since hearing it on the radio (and the fact that he mentions drinking coffee from a cup with “a little lady in green” on his cup makes me smile every. single. time). There are those albums out there that you get for that one song and then are sorely disappointed when the rest of the songs on the album fall flat. The Glorious Unfolding, happliy, is not one of those albums. Every song will either having you tapping your toes, bobbing your head, or just sighing with happiness at the beautiful sound. And the lyrics. Love them. They make me smile and think—so well written!
More about The Glorious Unfolding: The Glorious Unfolding centers on the truth that God is at work telling a story through the wonderful and amazing as well as the painful and difficult chapters of our lives, something Chapman understands first hand:
“The theme for the new album was this idea that God will complete the story and in fact, He already has completed it and knows the ending. Yet a part of the mystery is that He is revealing it in our lives and it’s this unfolding, incredible tale of His love for us. This album gave me a chance to tell that, to celebrate loss and hope and new life. For all of that, I’m really grateful,” remarked Chapman.
