Drop What You Are Reading and Get This Book

PicMonkey Collage

You, guys. I have found a new favorite author. Right up there with Lauren Oliver (I kid not). Lindsay Cummings is a must, must read. She is the first author I have ever pre-ordered anything from (twice now). You’ll hear more about The Fear Trials later this week (and, hint, hint there’s gonna be a giveaway!!) Today her first middle grade book, The Fires of Calderon, releases (I pre-ordered so I’m not so patiently waiting on this one to get to my door!) I would highly recommend that you drop what you are reading and scoop this one up! I know you aren’t going to be disappointed (It’s Lindsay Cummings—how could you be?!)

About the book:

The Fires of Calderon is Book One in Lindsay Cummings’s epic Balance Keepers series. These exciting fantasy adventure books are full of magic, mystery, friendship, and humor and are perfect for fans of books like Brandon Mull’s The Candy Shop War or the Unwanteds series by Lisa McMann.

Bestselling author of the Skeleton Creek series Patrick Carman describes The Fires of Calderon as “fast paced and packed with adventure,” and Peter Lerangis, bestselling author of the Seven Wonders series, says, “Wow!”

With themes of friendship, self-discovery, and courage; both boy and girl main characters; fierce creatures to battle; a mystery to solve; and a boarding school that could be described as Hogwarts underground, there’s something for every reader to enjoy in this contemporary—and fantastically imaginative—spin on the classic Journey to the Center of the Earth.

When eleven-year-old Albert Flynn follows a mysterious map deep into the woods, and then under the woods, he discovers he’s a Balance Keeper—someone with special magical skills for keeping harmony in fantastical underground worlds. Together with his teammates Leroy and Birdie, Albert must master his magical talents in time to stop the fires in the Calderon Realm from destroying New York City above.

About the author:

Lindsay Cummings is a 22-year-old author of THE MURDER COMPLEX series, THE FEAR TRIALS, a prequel novella and the MG trilogy, THE BALANCE KEEPERS.

Why writing?—

When Lindsay graduated from highschool in 2009, she became sick with Chronic Fatigue. She was constantly tired from several surgeries, couldn’t get out of bed most days, failed her college classes, and had to drop out. Because of Chronic Fatigue, Lindsay took up writing. At first, it was a hobby and a way to escape. But after a while, Lindsay became obsessed with writing stories…it turned into a career, and she wouldn’t have it any other way! Unless she could teach Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. Then she’d have it that way.

Lindsay loves YA books, especially the dark ones, and wants every girl in the world to know that Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead is HER man, and they should kindly back off 🙂

Lindsay owns two German shepherds, one wolf cub who isn’t very smart, a real live Budweiser draft horse named Dan the Man, and a silly little quarter horse named Clue. Lindsay collects weapons, loves to shoot her guns, eats too many Hot Cheetos, and can’t stop dying her hair crazy colors. She’s still waiting on her letter from Hogwarts—it was probably just lost in the mail. She loves Jesus Christ and believes all of her success is His doing!

I was up to my ears with rejections for my YA dyst I was up to my ears with rejections for my YA dystopian and ready to throw in the towel. My best friend suggested I try writing YA rom com (remember that @neysawalker ?) … which was laughable (since I liked killing characters not having the happily ever after.) But what she said stuck and I eventually started thinking about this girl named Murphy who watched her crush slip and fall at the airport leading to him being in coma, her being mistaken for his girlfriend, and then meeting his best friend and actually falling in love …
