So apparently when I made the goal of “buy more plants” for 2018, I took myself seriously. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve obtained 16 plants, bringing my grand total to 20. So far there has been only one casualty. I’ve had a couple questions about the plant life so I thought I’d share here.
Where do you purchase/get your plants?
So far I’ve picked up plants at the grocery store, have been gifted plants, and got a few online from Ruby Plants.
I’ve also gotten a couple of starts from my mom — I come by my “crazy plant lady” status honestly.
How do you keep them alive?
The biggest thing for me is remembering to water (and not over watering). I’ve picked one day a week (Sundays) to go around a give every plant one to two cubes of ice (depending on their size). For my larger plants (like my peace lily) I’ll just dump the kids’ leftover water from their school water bottles each morning when I’m prepping their backpacks for the day. I also have a small spray bottle (that I got in the travel section at Wal-Mart) filled with water to give my air plant a spritz a week — I really can’t tell if that one is alive and thriving or getting ready to die on me. For all I know it could be a fake plant (wouldn’t that be the funniest). Air plants are weird to me.
What do you do with them?
Right now, a majority of them reside on a ledge in my kitchen, however, I do have a few in my office, and eventually, I want a little rainforest feel around my bathtub #goals.
Do you name your plants?
So far only three have names Spike (seen here), Patti — a pineapple-y looking plant my sister got me for Christmas, and my Rosemary start from my mom . . . Rosemary (so original I know). I do like naming my plants (I like naming everything), but I haven’t named all my plants.
I think this goal (resolution, whatever you want to call it) might be my favorite one yet. I am loving collecting these plants and cultivating my green thumb in the process (I’ll get there eventually!)
