I’m super excited to be taking part in the Writer’s World Blog Tour! My good friend and #WriteNight gal, Sara Ella, asked me to participate. You can see her post from last week here.
Sara and I met via a ACFW forum and realized we had been working together via Litfuse as well (such a small world)! She’s currently working on an crazy exciting novel that is literally going to knock your socks off! I can’t wait for it to get published. She was the winner of the First Impression contest, a finalist in the Genesis contest, and has won or placed in numerous other contests around the web (this girl is seriously talented let me tell you!) She lives in Utah with her awesome husband and two incredibly adorable girls.
For this tour, I was given four questions to answer. I will also introducing two other fabulous writers who will also be answering these questions on their blogs next week!
What are you working on?
Currently working on book one in what I hope will become a trilogy. There isn’t a title yet (hoping to get readers help on that soon-be on the lookout for that if you have a talent for naming things) but here’s a back cover blurb of sorts:
Freedom is a paradox.
There was a time when our country was called “the land of the free”. In the Atlantic States of America, however, freedom is anything but free.
This is life for Anna Sleeper. And she accepts it. Anna is content with her uneventful life managing her uncle’s coffee shop. It may not be the greatest, but it’s what she knows, and what she knows is comfortable.
And then James Mallory shows up at her door in the middle of the night.
A fugitive and rebel leader of the Underground, Mallory gets under Anna’s skin in ways she can’t explain. Ways that have her questioning everything she’s ever known. The odds are against them as Anna and Mallory race against time to make it to the New Republic of Texas, a place where he promises they will finally be free.
With Uriah Crain and his army hot on their trail, one question remains . . .
Are Anna and Mallory running towards true freedom?
How does your work differ from others in its genre?
I love how Ted Dekker, in all his weirdness, writes stories with double meanings. Within my stories I hope to put metaphors and pictures of Christian’s daily struggles and walk. I want to write powerful stories that Christian or non-Christians would enjoy reading. Because of this the Christian “message” won’t be blatantly out there, but if you look for it, it will be there.
Why do you write what you do?
I write because I have to. YA just happens to be what I love. I wouldn’t say that it’s that much different from adult fiction except that they tend to be less graphic. I love writing for young adults as their minds tend to be more open to the magic of the story.
How does your writing process work?
First draft is pretty ugly. I get it out there out of my head. Then I go back and plot. And I rewrite and rewrite until I get it right. Also, I drink copious of coffee.
Brittany Currie is a super sweet gal I met at a mutual friend’s wedding. We ended up running wedding errands, chatting writing, and really connecting that whole weekend. After we went our separate ways (she lived in California, me in Arkansas) we knew we had to stay in touch! We chat writing every so often via FaceTime. She’s getting her writing adventure started and I know she’s going to be amazing! You can follow along with her adventure on her blog.
Shannon Dittemore and I met when I worked on the blog tour for her debut, Angel Eyes (if you haven’t already, you should be reading this book). She’s currently hard at work on her next greatest novel—I, for one, can’t wait for it! You can find out more about Shannon and her books on her website.
