So there was a little mishap in the Krumm house this weekend. My husband stepped off the back porch. Yep… this was the mishap. And it landed us in the ER for 5ish hours on Sunday (yes, that day that I use to catch up on everything and not work… well, I didn’t catch up on anything).
That’s a great scary picture just for a sprained/broke ankle huh? I just remember thinking while we were sitting in the waiting room, I was so grateful that it wasn’t Elsie or Drew we were sitting there with waiting to get them checked out (we dropped them off at my mom’s … flu and strep season… wasn’t taking them to the ER on a weekend. Nope … not happening) I also remember how smelly it was. Seriously. I’m pretty sure no one took showers before deciding to show up at the ER.
I did try to catch up on some reading. I love Louise May Alcott. Is it just me, or does biographies always seem to be more about the family than the person the biography is actually about. I’m holding out for this one… hoping it gets better (and by better I mean more about Louise than her father…) Andy and I also played Monopoly on the oh so wonderful iPhone. Between the book and Monopoly you’d think you’d have plenty to do to stay un-bored, but nope. I spent the whole time wishing I would have brought my Bible study to catch up on (more on this later. I’m loving my study right now) or my computer so I could at least get some blogging done … or even the beloved work I promised myself I wouldn’t work on over the weekend (workaholic much?) So next time (hopefully there isn’t a next time) that we go to the ER on a weekend and it isn’t life threatening, I’m going to remember to bring some stuff to do… and snack… oh there was mighty hungers going on after sitting there for 5 hours.
Even after we finally got back into a room it was still an hour and a half before we were able to leave. We had to argue with the doctor about needing an x-ray. Andy knows his ankles — he knew it wasn’t just a “simple” sprain. After examining the x-ray it turns out there was a chip off the bone. Ouch! But they treat it like a sprain and if it doesn’t feel better in seven days you come back for more treatment (luckily Andy is starting to feel better … not 100% but better just the same).
At least the exam room had a TV. We got to catch some of the game that was on. After we finally got home, got the kids into bed, I realized we had no ice and no food. So at midnight I tromped off to Wal-Mart. There are very interesting people at Wal-Mart after midnight. I’m just saying.
So now it’s day four days after the “date night” in the ER. Andy’s getting much better, but it’s been a little crazy around here this week. Being able to curl up with Daddy on the couch and watch Wonder Pets is such a treat! Praising Jesus that it wasn’t any serious than it was and that he’s mending nicely.
