At the beginning of October I made a goal to walk/run one mile every day.
And I made it . . . ten (one I didn’t photograph).
Given most of those nine were at least two miles, but I still didn’t make my goal of one mile every day. Which is a bummer, but I’ve learned a couple thing through this experience.
(1) With three kids by myself 95% of the time, it’s really hard to make it to the gym—especially when I’m swamped at work. Yes there is the time that I can go when Andy gets home from work, but generally that is his time to go. Yes, I could have gotten up early and gone then, but that’s writing time—when I am able to get myself up.
(2) It’s easier to get a mile in with a friend. Duh. This should go without saying, but half of the days I got to get out of the house with a friend, I got in over two miles and the kids had a blast riding their bikes. (So the moral of the story is that in November, we’ll most likely be heading to the bike/walking trail to get in some after school exercise).
(3) It’s ok. I still wish I could have made my goal. I still beat myself up a little thinking about all the ways I could have tried to fit in thirty minutes at the gym, but at the end of the day, it’s ok that I didn’t make my goal. The thing is to take away what I learned, adjusting what needs to be adjusted, and go from there.
Have you ever failed at completing a goal?
