Tell us a little about yourself.
I am an Arkansas native but currently live in Denver with my husband, Heath. I am a Family Practice Physician Assistant for refugees and a new blogger. I love writing about faith in Jesus, simple living, travel, and my experience as a Physician Assistant to the refugee community.
What’s the name of your new blog?
The title of my blog is The Vine & Venture.
Where does the name come from?
The Vine comes from John chapter 15 of the Bible in which Jesus says “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” I write in the blog about living a life of joy, selflessness & intentionality, but the overarching empowerment to live this life is that of the Vine. I believe I will be most impactful in my work, my marriage, and my life in Denver when I am abiding in Christ, the Vine. The Venture theme of the blog is mainly about the “ventures” or leaps of faith I have been called to in this season: the physician assistant career, the refugee world, marriage, and church planting in Denver, CO. I hope to help those interested in a career as a PA to learn about the career from my personal experience in it. I hope also to educate people about the refugee community.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Tea, dark chocolate, and my husband
If you were marooned on an island, what are three things you must have?
If marooned on an island, I would want to have my husband there, a bible, and a journal (could I have a pen too?).
What’s currently on your nightstand?
Only my lamp, phone, and a book—Seeking Refuge.
What are you currently reading?
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, Seeking Refuge: on the Shores of the Global Refugee Crisis, The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well, and Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with both our Hearts and Our Minds by Jen Wilkin. (I usually like to read several at a time—if I get too bogged down with something like dystopian fiction, I switch to a more lighthearted read, The Little book of Hygge, for example.)
What are you currently binge watching on Netflix?
I’m not really watching anything on Netflix! (probably because I have been so into reading, podcasts, and audiobooks lately!)
What is your Starbucks drink?
Favorite Starbucks drink is a Matcha Green Tea Latte w/ coconut milk
What does a typical writing day look like for you?
I’m not sure I have a typical day of writing yet, since I am so new to the blogging world. I usually work Mon-Wed 8-7 then have off Thurs and Fri. So I try to use those days to write, edit, work on graphics, and plan for social media posts. I am still figuring out my rhythm of writing on those days.
What are you current four favorite things?
This store. I am experimenting with making my own DIY beauty and cleaning products. The store is just a few miles from our apartment and they have mason jars, bottles of all sizes and bulk products for making homemade everything!
