So since the death of my second coffee maker in a year, we’ve been drinking a lot of pour over coffee.
My dad made all of us kids a pour over stand and gave us a Hario coffee dripper last year for Christmas (I love my dad’s handmade gifts. They are always the best.)
After watching many YouTube videos on how to properly fix a pour over, I dove in. I honestly can’t tell you how amazing a cup of pour over coffee is. It’s so rich and strong. Seriously amazing cup of coffee.
Things we’ve discovered: (1) the grind really does matter. If the grind is to gritty, your cuppa will come out pretty weak. The key is fine grind. (2) Also, with the Hario dripper, unless you want coffee all over the place (and very little in your cup), you need the Hario No2 filters—trying to go cheap and get the Wal-Mart knock-offs doesn’t cut it. (3) If you start drinking pour over coffee you need to prepare yourself for a whole new level of addiction. Also, it would be a good idea to invest in a drip kettle that will allow you to control the water flow more easily, but I’ve been making due with my tea kettle.
The only bad thing about it is you can only prepare one cup at a time. Which isn’t really a bad thing if you make yourself slow down and enjoy your one cup. It has help curb my pot a day habit. Now I’ll generally have a cup in the morning and one after lunch (if I’m really desperate, I’ll get one after the kids go to bed as well.)
*take note: my dad is currently taking orders for your very own pour over stand so you can bring your coffee addiction to a whole new level! Shoot me an email if you want more information!
